Gantt chart
A Gantt chart shows how long a set of tasks, events or processes lasts, drawing each one as a bar that runs along a time axis from its start date to its end date.
Best known for project schedules, it also suits any data with a beginning and an end: it shows at a glance when each item starts, how long it takes and which ones overlap in time.
How to
To create a Gantt chart:
- Select 'bar' in 'Marks'.
- Link the categorical variable that names the items to the ‘Y-axis’.
- Link the start date and the end date variables to the ‘X-axis’.
- In the options of the date axis, under 'Relationship with other axes', set 'Axis organization' to 'Combined': both dates then share a single axis and each bar spans from one to the other.
Link the duration, or any other variable, to 'color' or 'label' to show it on the bars.
