Beeswarm plot

A beeswarm plot is used to display the values of a quantitative variable along an axis. The color, as well as the other axis, are often used to categorize the marks.

Algorithms are used to avoid overlapping of marks, making it easier to see how the values are distributed.

Size can be used in these plots to encode an additional quantitative variable.

Creating a beeswarm plot in Scimago Graphica is as easy as linking a quantitative variable to one of the axes (horizontal or vertical), and in Marks → Layout select "Avoid overlap" option.

You can use the other axis for a categorical variable, and the visual property "Size" for another quantitative variable.
