Alluvial diagram

Alluvial diagrams are similar to parallel coordinate plots, but the axis variables are categorical and connections are represented by areas instead of lines.

To create an alluvial diagram you only need to link two or more categorical variables to the same axis (horizontal or vertical), and select 'areas' as the mark type.

To improve the aesthetics of the diagram you can choose the curved line as line style and decrease the opacity of the areas.

Just link a quantitative variable to the visual property "Size", so that its values determine the width of the areas.
